History

artKitchen gallery opened its doors in 1993 in a 17th century canal house overlooking one of the most famous Amsterdam canals.

In 2006 the gallery moved to a new location, just outside the center of Amsterdam.
artKitchen Gallery is now housed at a cultural business area, called the ‘1800 Roeden’.

1800 Roeden is a collection of old warehouses in the middle of the meadows, under the smoke of Amsterdam. The depots are built around the beginning of the 20th century. Originally they were used as storage for ammunition and as a laboratory. In 1984 the site lost its military purpose. Craftsmen, artists and ‘Het Rijk van de Keizer(an event organisation and restaurant) settled here over the years. On November 13, 1999 Shed A partially burned off.
The entire complex is recognized as a national monument in 1998. ArtKitchen Gallery renovated shed A. The ‘1800 Roeden’ has only accessible for the Defense department for years. It was not open to the people of Amsterdam. This allowed the nature of this area to go its own way. It is a unique place where you can enjoy the art. The middle section of Hall A is converted to exhibition space and office artKitchen gallery. The Amsterdam architect Tijmen Ploeg has a "prefab" design for the new layout of the space created. Everything is removable. Office, toilet, office space, exhibition space, and add stock to be in Hall A and is eroded. 210 square meters full of history has again become a laboratory. This time for art.
